For Moderators: Symposium 2006 - April 28 & 29
This Symposium showcases the talents and accomplishments of undergraduate students in the University of Hawaii system. We thank you for your participation. What You Need to Do Click - here - for a check list of items for poster judges and moderators of oral presentation panels. The students will be presenting their work in a variety of disciplines and the projects will range from early to middle to final stages of completion. On Friday, April 28th, the East-West Center's Hawaii Imin International Conference Center will be open from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. so the students can set-up posters and pre-load their PowerPoint presentations on the laptops (see map of rooms where oral presentations will take place on Saturday). Public viewing and judging of the posters will take place on Friday in the Keoni auditorium from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. On Saturday, April 29th, the Symposium will run from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the East-West Center's Hawaii Imin International Conference Center. The event will include morning coffee and tea, lunch, special performance by the UH Dance Ensemble, and will conclude with the presentation of awards.
Approximately one week before the Symposium we will publish the schedule of oral presentations. The schedule will show who is speaking in each room during each 15-minute period. It will also provide a link to each speaker's abstract, as well as a listing of room moderators. This will give you an opportunity to read the names and abstracts of the students you will be introducing and watching. The students have been instructed to prepare a talk that is 7-10 minutes in length, with the expectation that the final five minutes will be available for questions and answers. Please be prepared to facilitate the question phase. Judging Rubrics Criteria for judging will be based on specific rubrics. Click - here - to see the judging criteria for oral presentations. Click - here - to read the judging criteria for posters. Awards of gift certificates from the UH Mānoa bookstore will be presented to students for best oral presentation in each panel of both sessions as well as for poster presentations in each of three categories: social sciences, arts and humanities, natural sciences/engineering. Honorable mentions will also be awarded in each oral presentation panel and each poster division. All students participating in the symposium are automatically eligible for these awards.
